The fourth grade class participated in a field trip to Clear Lake and Mason City to visit The Surf Ballroom, Music Man Square and the Mac Nider Art Center. The field trip was a multi-educational experience involving art, music and gym. Students were able to see pieces of art and experience an art museum. They were also able to see and learn about The Music Man, a film they studied in music class. They were also able to learn about the history of the Surf Ballroom and even got to dance at the Surf. During this field trip students took pictures at each site to gain perspective. These experiences help the students meet the National Standards that are not typically met inside our classrooms. These standards include understanding music in relation to history and culture, making connections between dance and healthful living, and understanding the visual arts in relation to history and cultures. The fourth graders learned much and had a great time visiting these historic places. This grant was made possible by monies from the Perpich Center for Arts Education grant.
