Diane Heaney has been the high school vocal music director for Albert Lea Area Schools since 1993. She received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa and her Master of Music Education degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Cincinnati, OH. She taught 7-12 vocal music in Hull, IA; Montevideo, MN; and Menomonie, WI.
At Albert Lea she directs multiple choirs, show choirs, Chorale, Caroliers, the annual musical, and gives private voice lessons. Choirs under her direction have appeared at the Luther College Dorian Choral Festival, MN State University-Mankato Festival, ACDA Choral Arts Finale, and the MN Music Educators Conference.
Diane sings as a soloist and has been seen on the stage at the Albert Lea Community Theatre in several productions. She is also a church organist, vocal adjudicator, and choral clinician.
Diane is an active member of MMEA/MENC and the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) of Minnesota. She has served as the state show choir chair and SE MN representative for ACDA, and is currently the president-elect for ACDA of MN. She has been state choral vice-president for MN Music Educators Association and has served as the alto section coach for MN All-State Choirs.
She was named Teacher of the Year in 2007 and was a semi-finalist for Minnesota Teacher of the Year in 2008. Diane was inducted into the ALHS Wall of Inspiration in 2011.
